About The Test

Test Overview

The liver’s job is to produce protein and clear bilirubin, a blood waste product. When your liver is damaged from toxins such as medications and heavy alcohol consumption, it releases enzymes into your bloodstream. Liver function tests can evaluate how well your liver is working, and also measure enzyme levels that could indicate liver damage.
