Use:
The luteinizing hormone blood test measures the amount of luteinizing hormone (LH) in blood. LH is a hormone released by the pituitary gland, located on the underside of the brain. This test is used to evaluate: fertility issues; function of reproductive organs (ovaries or testicles); to detect the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation); and to evaluate pituitary function.
Recommended for:
Women: If you have difficulty getting pregnant or have irregular or heavy menstrual periods; and when tracking ovulation during the menstrual cycle.
Men: If your partner cannot get pregnant or if you have a low sperm count, low muscle mass or decreased sex drive.
