Can what I eat make me feel sick?
If you have a food allergy, you may feel sick after eating the food to which you are allergic. Symptoms of a food allergy can include:
- Tingling or itching in your mouth
- Itchy skin
- Swollen lips, face, tongue, and throat
- Nasal congestion
- Abdominal pain
- Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
If you feel like this after eating certain foods, you could have a food allergy. You can only prevent the symptoms of food allergy by avoiding the food. After you have identified the foods that give you an allergic reaction, you must remove them from your diet.
How do I find out which food is making me feel sick?
Blood tests are needed to determine if you have a food allergy.
How can I get tested?
You can order your own blood tests right now, without consulting a health care provider. We offer the Basic Food Allergen Profile, which includes 15 different food allergens. Simply choose the test, pay for it and our board-certified physician will authorize you to have the test performed. After you order the test, you will receive a laboratory requisition in your email that you can bring with you to more than 50 convenient Health Network Laboratory locations where we will draw your blood for testing.
HNL also offers In-Home Lab Testing. An HNL phlebotomist can collect samples from the comfort of your home with HNL House Calls. When you add this feature to your purchase, an HNL phlebotomist will call you to schedule an appointment in your home.
When your results are ready, we will let you know. Your test results are secure, confidential and available to only you. You can choose if you want to share your results with anyone else, including your doctor. Please note, we do not accept insurance at this time.
