This profile evaluates your recent exposure to infectious mononucleosis.
Anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has mononucleosis (mono) or anyone who has symptoms. Infectious mononucleosis, commonly called mono, is a viral illness. Symptoms can include:
- Sore throat
- Swollen lymph glands
Sometimes you may also have a swollen spleen. Serious problems are rare.
Mono is spread through saliva, so it is often called the kissing disease. While it is most common in young people, anyone can get this illness.
If this test comes back positive, you should follow up with a health care provider.
There is no preparation for this test.
