Hepatitis causes inflammation of your liver. There are several types of hepatitis, including type A. This profile evaluates your exposure to the hepatitis A virus.

Recommended For:

Anyone who believes they may have come in contact with the hepatitis A virus. The disease spreads through contact with an infected person. You can get it from:

  • Eating food made by an infected person who did not wash their hands after using the bathroom
  • Drinking untreated water or eating food washed in untreated water
  • Putting something into your mouth that came in contact with an infected person's stool
  • Close contact with an infected person 

Some people do not get symptoms, but those who do describe:

  • Tiredness
  • Muscle soreness
  • Stomach issues
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Dark-yellow urine
  • Light-colored stools
  • Yellowish eyes and skin

These symptoms can begin weeks after exposure to the virus. 


  • Hepatitis A IgG for immunity status
  • Hepatitis A IgM for acute hepatitis 


There is no preparation needed for this test.
